The ages [2]

This is a wide view of my previous post (The ages). The feeling of being present in such a place which is reconstructed, and as such reinterpreted, through the ages by different people is terrifying. Posted by Picasa

Great photograph of the arch. I can only imagine the generations that have passed under. I wonder if the wall possibly moving over the years was reason for the arch being reinforced many times over? A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thank you very much Marc. This mosque, like many other Jame-Mosques (Jame-Mosque is like a cathedral in Christian cultures) has gone under drastic transformations during like more than 8 centuries. Each time it has been reinforced (one reason for the arches) and redesigned according to the new possibilities and the new way of man's understanding of his existence in the world. I believe that the latter has been much more important. You may find its traces or signs in the new proportions and expression of the monument.

In this bigger photo we can see what's really going on, very good! Makes you wonder when the next layer of bricks go's in? The opening is getting smaller all the time!

Archways are very interesting. I've seen them where they were really big and they just kept adding brick so people couldn't enter on horseback. good one.
